First Formula Regional podium for Mari Boya after an excellent
weekend in Valencia
• Boya scored a great sum of points in what was his best weekend so far on the series.
• The job done throughout the year was finally rewarded with a magnificent podium on Race 1.
• Boya: “It was a super positive weekend, I would say the best of the season, with a podium and a rookie win. The car felt great from the first moment”.
Round 8 of Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine provided Mari Boya with his best results
of the season. The Van Amersfoort Racing driver did a stellar performance, which allowed him to claim
the first podium finish of his season.
After several rounds where the hard work had not properly delivered the expected results, Boya was
strong at Circuit Ricardo Tormo since the very beginning. The Spaniard was on the top 3 in all Thursday
and Friday sessions.
On Saturday, Boya confirmed the good feelings. He was third on qualifying, matching his best result of the season. The youngster had a great chance ahead to claim an impressive amount of points.
Race 1 came and Boya maintained the position at the start. The VAR driver firmly defended his podium positions on the first corners. He then had a solid, consistent pace during the remainder of the race and saw the chequered flag on third place. Boya achieved his first Formula Regional podium, a special, deserved result after the hard work done throughout the season. Moreover, he also claimed his first win on the Rookie category.
Moving on to Sunday, Boya and the team decided to change the set-up of the car. However, the adjustments did not perform as expected and he qualified in eighth position for Race 2.
On the second and final race, Boya held his starting position. The Spaniard found action on the opening laps as he was overtaken by another driver. Shortly after, Boya regained the position and fought for seventh until the final laps. The #64 crossed the finish line in eighth place, but got promoted to seventh after a rival was given a penalty.
Boya completed his best weekend to this date in Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. The Spaniard scored 21 and got up on the podium but, above that, he proved to be capable of fighting at the top and managed to convert his pace into the deserved results. After this weekend, he will come to the final two rounds more determined than ever to wrap up the season on a high.
Boya: “It was a super positive weekend, I would say the best of the season, with a podium and a rookie win. The car felt great from the first moment and just lacked a bit of pace on Race 1, but we were on the podium despite that. We took a risk by twisting the set-up, it did not work, but we managed to be fast on the race. I am very happy and already focused on the next round in Mugello. Thanks to my team for their great job, to my family and to everyone supporting me”.
Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine is coming to an end. In two weeks, in October 9-10, the championship will hold its ninth and penultimate round at Mugello Circuit.
