• He adapted perfectly to the track, with competitive pace and not a single mistake throughout the weekend.

• Boya: “I adapted well, and I am satisfied with the pace we had. Happy with the points scored and the progression we are going through in the series”.

Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine visited the Principality of Monaco for Round 3 of the season. The young talents faced the tricky streets in a weekend that was once again positive for Mari Boya. The Van Amersfoort Racing driver had a very solid performance, scoring points in both races and reaffirming himself as one of the strongest rookies on the grid.

Track action began on Thursday with the sole free practice session, where Boya had his first real experience on the track. In a circuit like Monaco every lap counts and is essential to know where the limits are, manage traffic and improve. Qualifying took place on Friday. Despite a throttle issue on his car, the Spaniard finished in a decent fifth position on his group. He would then start Race 1 from ninth on the grid, and Race 2 from the tenth spot.

As it was expected, overtaking in Monaco was barely possible. Boya kept ninth position at the start of Race 1 and held the position until the very end. The Spaniard rookie put the pressure on the car ahead and tried to find a gap but did not have a proper opportunity to gain places. At the same time, he contained the drivers behind, including the championship leader. Ninth place also granted him the second rookie spot.

Race 2 was held on Sunday. Boya kept tenth position at the start. Going uphill in Beau Rivage, two drivers made contact right ahead of him. Boya managed to avoid them with no damage on his car. However, a multiple crash was triggered behind, the track got blocked and the race had to be red flagged. All drivers involved were unharmed.

Boya restarted the race on ninth. There was a rolling start and there were no position changes, but the Spanish drivers placed his car immediately behind eighth place. Another incident ahead allowed Boya to gain a position. The pace and pressure were good, but again not enough to try an overtake manoeuvre. Boya saw the chequered flag in eighth position.

With three rounds already on the books, Boya remains third on the rookie standings. The Spaniard has 21 points after having scored in five races out of six. His progression and growth are being remarkable, always showing consistency and competitive pace. The overall feeling is good, and Boya is well positioned to keep improving throughout the season.

Boya: “This was a very special weekend, my first experience in Monaco and positive performance. When I got here, I got really emotional, this is such a different, unique circuit. I adapted well and I am satisfied with the pace we had, which would have allowed us to qualifying even further up. Happy with the points scored, with having avoided the big accident on Race 2 and with the progression we are going through on the series. Thanks a lot to the team for their great efforts, to my family, my coach, sponsors and everyone supporting us”.

Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine does not stop, and the action will return next weekend. Paul Ricard Circuit (France) is set to host Round 4 of the season.
