Difficult weekend for Mari Boya in Paul Ricard

Paul Ricard

The young Spaniard was affected by issues and incidents and could not score points in Round 4 of the season.

• His pace was good, but it could not be converted into positive results. Despite this setback, Boya keeps learning and growing with every lap on track.

• Boya: “Obviously, the weekend did not go as we expected. We are not happy with the results, but we keep the experience we gained and the motivation to be back on top in the next round”.

Round 4 of Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine took place last weekend in Paul Ricard Circuit. The French track was not a positive venue for Mari Boya this season. The Van Amersfoort Racing driver did not manage to score a point in an event marred by accidents and mechanical issues that left him unable to show his potential.

After showing in both practice sessions that he had pace to be among the top 10, he eventually qualified 14th for Race 1. That race, however, came to an abrupt end in the opening lap for Boya, who was unluckily involved in an accident at the Mistral straight and had to retire.

Boya’s luck would not improve on Sunday. A brake issue forced him to miss Qualifying 2, having to start the second race from last on the grid. His comeback was excellent, gaining more than fifteen positions and reaching the Top 20. His progression, however, ende don last lap after a new incident with another driver.

In terms of results, it was a weekend to forget, but Boya will take the experience gained to keep growing as a driver. The things he learnt this weekend will make him stronger and will help him to turn around the situation ahead of the upcoming rounds. The Catalan driver is still among the strongest rookies of the field, and he will undoubtedly come back stronger than ever, willing to prove his skills after this setback.

Boya: “Obviously, the weekend did not go as we expected. We were involved in incidents and difficult situations that had nothing to do with our driving. We are not happy with the results, but we keep the experienced we gained and the motivation to be back on top in the next round. The team did a mega job and I thank them for it. I also want to thank my coach, sponsors, and supporters for their efforts”.

Formula Regional European Chamionship by Alpine will return in three weeks. Zandvoort Circuit (Netherlands) is set to host Round 5 of the season, which will be Van Amersfoort Racing’s home race. Boya will fight to return to the top and claim good results.
