Mari Boya races at home for the second round of Formula Regional by Alpine

Imola-Race-1-2107

• Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit hosts the second event of the season, home race for Mari Boya, as part of Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.

• Boya had a great debut weekend in Imola and is looking forward to keeping progressing in the championship.

• Boya: “After a good season opener, we want to stay in that situation and to do well. This is my home race, so I am hungrier than ever for a good weekend”.

Three weeks after the season opener in Imola, Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine returns this weekend. Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit is the venue where the second round of the championship will take place. It will be a special weekend for Mari Boya, as this is the only round held in Spain. The driver will therefore be extra motivated to have a positive weekend.

All 34 drivers on the grid will face a 4.655 km track with 16 corners. The layout features fast, challenging sections, such as turns 3 and 9, combined with technical sections like sector 3. It is a track most drivers know perfectly as many tests are held there. Apart from pre-season testing, Boya knows the track for having raced on it in 2020. It was at F4 Spanish Championship season finale. He stood on the podium in all three races during that weekend.

Like it happened three weeks ago in Imola, Formula Regional will be one of Formula 1’s support series. The top motorsport championship holds the Spanish Grand Prix and young Formula Regional drivers will have the opportunity to race alongside the best drivers in the World. The Circuit also confirmed that 1,000 spectators will be allowed into the main grandstand, which is great news for Boya as he will have supporters rooting for him.

Boya comes to Montmeló after a great rookie weekend in Imola. The young Catalan driver, racing for Van Amersfoort Racing, scored points in both races and displayed a fast, competitive pace throughout weekend. The main objective will be keeping that positive progression, learning lap after lap and being consistent in order to keep being among the strongest rookies on the field.

Mari Boya: “The start of the championship was very positive, and we will have to work this weekend to maintain that level of performance. After a good season opener, we want to stay in that situation and to do well. This is my home race, so I am hungrier than ever for a good weekend. The team did an amazing job in Imola and I am convinced that they will do just as good, or better, in Barcelona. They make me feel confident and comfortable in and out of the car, and I am very thankful to them for that”.

Both qualifying sessions and races will be live streamed. Everyone will be able to watch them in Mari Boya’s official website. Qualifying session will take place on Friday, while Race 1 is scheduled for Saturday, and Race 2 for Sunday.
