Formula 4 vice-championship secured after last round

● The season has come to an end after last round in Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit. 

● Mari Boya steps o the podium in all three races and secures second place in the final standings after a great season of learning.

● "I think I had a positive season. I learnt a lot and the performance was generally good. I thank the team, my coach and everyone who helped me throughout the year", were Boya's words at the end of the weekend.

Final round of 2020 Formula 4 Spanish Championship season was held this weekend in Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit. Despite the start of the season had to be postponed, the season went ahead with no problems and all rounds were celebrated. Mari Boya finished his single seater debut year with a positive weekend at his home race. 

His weekend began obtaining a first row in Qualifying 1, where he finished second. In Race 1, Boya fought for the lead in a certain stage of the race before eventually seeing the chequered flag in third position. He stood on the podium in every single one of the championship’s meetings with these results, but he would not stop there.

Boya would return to the podium in both Sunday races. He had of his best outings of the season in Race 2. The Spaniard moved up from ninth position in the grid to third at the end of the race. His final race was also positive as he finished in third one again from fourth on the grid. Tyre management was key in both races. He was able to increase his pace on the final laps and was the fastest at these latter stages. This race management also allowed him to clinch fastest lap in races 2 and 3.

With these results -third in all three races-, Boya finished on the podium in all of the races. His final season balance is second position in drivers’ championship standings with 272 points. To achieve the vicechampionship, Boya won three races, stood on the podium fourteen times, secured three Pole positions and claimed four fastest laps.

But it is not only because of the numbers that his rookie Formula 4 year has been positive. Throughout the season’s seven round, Boya shown a precise driving, aggressive but clean and very smart at the wheel of his MP Motorsport car. The main objective of the season was to learn, to grow as a driver and to gain experience. Boya has accomplished these goals without any doubt.

I’m happy with the development of this weekend. We were consistent and stood on the podium in every race, so the overall feeling is good. I’m delighted to finish my rookie year in second position, I think I had a positive season. I learnt a lot and the performance was generally good. I thank the team, my coach and everyone who helped me throughout the year to accomplish our goals. I feel ready for the next step in my career and I’m already looking forward to be racing in 2021”, were Boya’s words after the last race of the season.

2020 is now over for Boya in terms of competition. Now it is time to rest after a positive year, in which the job done has been positive. Boya has proved that he is ready for the future and will soon reveal his intentions and plans ahead of the upcoming year.
