Mari Boya will contest in this 2021 the season of Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. The young Spanish driver, current runner-up in Formula 4 Spanish Championship, takes the logical step in his career by moving up to the competitive Formula Regional.

Following an extensive pre-season testing programme, Boya will race with Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR). The Dutch team is one of the most competitive and experienced on the grid, having decades of experience in different junior formula series. Among their accolades there are titles in Formula 3, Formula Renault and Formula 4 series. They are the reigning ADAC Formula 4 champions and claimed race wins in Formula Regional European Championship in 2020.

VAR is also known for having had great drivers defending their colours during their path towards Formula 1. Three of the current F1 drivers have raced with Frits Van Amersfoort’s squad throughout their junior careers: Charles Leclerc, Mick Schumacher and Max Verstappen.

In this new phase of his career, Boya will be supported by Real Automòbil Club de Catalunya (RAAC). The agreement will allow the driver to keep growing and developing a successful career alongside an entity of great national and international prestige, and is a confirmation of Boya’s position as one of the greatest promises of Spanish motorsport. Boya will also continue to be part of Monlau Motorsport in 2021.

Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine will hold its inaugural season in 2021 after the merge of Formula Regional European Championship and Formula Renault Eurocup. The championship will have a highly competitive grid, where the presence of more than 30 of the best young drivers in the World is confirmed. The winner of the championship will become a member of the Alpine Academy.

Mari Boya: “I am extremely excited to get started in FRECA with Van Amersfoort Racing. Sure, I would have liked some extra prep time with the team, but both VAR and I are confident and strongly dedicated towards making this a success story! Things move at a high pace and that suits me. I have spent already valuable time with the team in the Netherlands and am ready to hit the track very soon. It is pretty awesome that we share the track with Formula 1 multiple times on legendary tracks and I can’t wait for the lights to go out at Imola this upcoming weekend!

Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine will start on April 17th at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, in Imola (Italy). The championship will begin as one of Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix’s support series. The season will feature a total of ten events across some of the best racetracks in Europe, with two races per round.
